8th day of IPFT strike: No response to CM Manik Sarkar’s request from the central on IPFT row, blockade to continue
By Our Correspondent, 17/07/2017, Agartala

Unruly IPFT supporters continue with their strike on the 8th day as Central is yet to give any response to CM Manik Sarkars request in the IPFT row.

It is to be mentioned here that CM Manik Sarkar have further urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to intervene into the issue of the ongoing road and rail blockade by tribal party IPFT to push their demand for a separate State.

Due to the blockade of the arterial national highway and solitary railway line, people of the State are facing serious problems in getting essentials and other basic items from outside the State,” said Sarkar at a press conference earlier.

Meanwhile a source at the central has also claimed that there is no chance of any meeting with the IPFT representatives

The IPFT, which for years has been agitating for the creation of a separate state, carved out by upgrading the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area, organized blockade on the NH-8, the life line of the state, and the lone railway line to the state at Khamting Bari since 10th July.

The Left Front government led by Manik Sarkar, which is strongly opposed to both the demand and the stir, has taken unprecedented security measures in and around the Baramura hill ranges, through which the NH-8 and the railway line passes.
