Flood disaster day 2: More than 5,000 marooned in Tripura flood, River Howrah crossed danger level, warning issued

At least more than 5000 are marooned in Tripura flood including farmlands, houses, cattle’s and other public properties.

It is to be mentioned here it is one of the most disastrous flood recorded in Tripura. Incessant rain since Thursday night has triggered flash flood across the state.  The situation can further deteriorate in the coming days as the weatherman has issues warning of heavy to moderate rainfall in the coming four days.

According to the source, two drowning incidents were reported near Agartala but details are awaited.

Reportedly, the National Disaster Response Force, Tripura State Rifles and Civil Defence Volunteers are engaged in rescue and relief operations. Boats are being pressed to rescue people and take them to makeshift camps.

Rain-triggered flash floods even submerged the official residences of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and other Ministers. Functioning of school, offices, and business was disrupted due to bad weather. Plying of vehicles on the Assam-Agartala National Highway was disrupted and traffic was diverted at many places in the State.

All major rivers in Tripura are flowing above the danger mark. The condition of the Howrah along Agartala is extremely critical as water at 6 p.m. on Friday was measured at 11.2-metre, 1.2-metre higher than the danger mark. Situation is reported to be very critical –Chandrapur, Dashamighat, Pratapgarh and RK Mission. Entire Agartala Municipal Corporation areas became inundated bringing normal life to a complete standstill, massive damage of properties and cropland was reported from other parts of the district.
