SFI-TSU wins Tripura college council election
By Our Correspondent, 13/09/2017, Agartala

The student’s wing of Left, SFI and TSU won the students council election in Tripura today. They were earlier declared winner unopposed in nine colleges and won the reaming 13 colleges on Tuesday.

Counting at all college venues was taken up after voting deadline ended at 2 pm. SFI led alliance surged ahead in most colleges and ABVP registered its presence in colleges mostly in north Tripura.

Counting marred tension at Bir Bikram College campus in Agartala in the evening engaging security personnel to resort to baton charge to disperse clashing students. BVP alleged police officers have been acting at behest of ruling CPI(M).

Troops were deployed in strength to prevent recurrence of fight between supporters of SFI and ABVP. At least 10 students were injured in clashes that occurred at Nazrul College, Bir Bikram Memorial College, Fatikroy college and Dharmanagar college.

Both SFI and ABVP blamed each other for instigating tension. SFI alleged that its candidate for position of General Secretary in Amarpur government degree college, Uttam Sutradhar, managed to escape when miscreants armed with sharp cutting weapons attacked his house on Monday night.

SFI and TSU together had won 530 seats unopposed of total 778 different category seats covering 22 colleges. Election was held for 247 seats in 13 colleges mostly in rural areas on Tuesday.
