Agartala , 11 Jan, 2017 :: Food packaging materials have traditionally been chosen to avoid unwanted interactions with the food. During the past two decades a wide variety of packaging materials have been devised or developed to interact with the food. These packaging materials, designed to perform some desired role other than to provide an inert barrier to outside influences, are termed active packaging. With the aim to create awareness about packaged foods daylong seminar was organized at Pragna Bhawan on Wednesday. Industry Minister Tapan Chakraborty along with M. Nagaraju, the Principal Secretary of Industry Dept. waremained present in the program.
There is a need to develop alternative packaging system for foods which would be easily acceptable to the market for various commodity items. The most promising of these require using the mathematical models capable of predicting the shelf life of the packaged product in its real conditions of use. If using conventional methods, one has to first produce the actual packaging, store it in environmental conditions that simulate the real storage and distribution conditions and then test the quality of the packed product at regular intervals.
