Muslims across the state on Monday celebrated Eid al-Adha with utmost devotion. As a part of the festival, the Muslims across the state offered namaaz at Gedu Miah Masjid to mark the day.
After offering Namaaz, the Muslims wished each other to mark the occasion of Eid al-Adha. It is a holy time of sacrifice and generosity to friends, family and the needy. Muslims honor the Eid al-Adha as the time Ibrahim - known as Abraham to Jews and Christians - was going to sacrifice his son Isaac. Instead Abraham was ordered by God to kill an animal instead.
The celebrations symbolise Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah and they mark the end of the Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca which thousands of Muslims all over the world embark on.
Eid al-Adha is different from Eid al-Fitr – which is the festival after Ramadan. Meanwhile, security is also tightened across the border to avoid any cross border cattle smuggling. As the threat of cattle smuggling across the border is rampant border security is tightened from today.
