Political parties turns their attention towards AMC polls

The election of Agartala Municipal Corporation has become interesting and all eyes are on the AMC polls, more than any other civic body poll. The ruling party has taken it as a challenge. TMC wants to use the AMC polls to expand its base in the state. The main opposition CPM is disappointed and has wrapped itself up with allegations of political violence. Some people are even saying that the Left may announce the withdrawal of the candidates before the vote, citing allegations of political violence. According to some political analysts, the battle for AMC would be between BJP and TMC.
TMC is likely to bring some Tollywood stars after November 20 and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is also likely to visit the state. TMC leaders like Saini Ghosh, Anubrata Mondal and some ministers of West Bengal like Firhad Hakim are likely to visit the state to campaign for the party in the AMC polls.

For the ruling BJP, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb will be the face of the campaign. Apart from holding meetings of candidates and party workers in different constituencies, he is also holding election meetings. Ruling party star campaigners are likely to come to the state after November 20. Party’s star campaigners will be Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Shuvendu Adhikari is also likely to visit the state. It is learned that Amit Shah will attend a program after offering puja at Matabari.

On the other hand, keeping in mind the current situation of the party in West Bengal, a section of state CPM believes that it may not evoke a response among the electorate. As of now, there are no plans of CPM to bring any party leader from West Bengal to campaign for the AMC poll. The Left party’s main face for AMC polls is Manik Sarkar.

The other opposition party Congress is also in the contest. Already party’s state in-charge Ajay Kumar came to the state to attend the training camp organized for the party coordinators and motivators at Rabindra Bhavan by state president Birajit Singha. There was also a procession in the city attended by Ajay. The party hasn’t yet informed whether any other leader from Delhi would come to the state to campaign for AMC polls.
