15 years of remembering 'Guru'

It has been 15 years since Mani Ratnam’s 2007 film "Guru", starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles, hit the theatres to critical acclaim and commercial success.
Also starring Mithun Chakraborty, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan and Roshan Seth, "Guru" is inspired by the life of Indian industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani. The film garnered a highly positive reception, with particular praise directed at Abhishek Bachchan’s performance, and earned a total Rs 836 million.
In remembrance of 15 years of the film, Abhishek Bachchan tweeted: “15 years! Time flies!”, with a video clip of the film.

The film was released on 11 January 2007, a Thursday, and had its premiere in Elgin Theatre in Toronto, Canada, thus making it the first Indian film to have its mainstream international premiere in Canada.
The film was premiered in the Tous Les Cinemas du Monde (World Cinema) section of 2007 Cannes Film Festival. The film has also been dubbed and released in Tamil with the same title while in Telugu with the title "Gurukanth".
The movie focuses on the life on a young man named Gurukanth Desai who dreams big against the backdrop of being a poor villager, living in a corrupt system. "Guru" focuses on the life of how a man ruthlessly pursues success and resorts to all sorts of methods available to push his enterprise and becomes one of the largest business tycoons of India.
The production companies were Reliance Entertainment and Madras Talkies, and producers Mani Ratnam and G Srinivasan.
