New Delhi, March 13 (UNI) The meeting of Congress Working Committee, which started on Sunday evening, is likely to be stormy, in the wake of the proposal to appoint Mukul Wasnik as the new president of the grand old party. A faction of members have been continuously demanding the change of leadership and have sent the proposal to the High Command, which was rejected. The meeting will discuss the reasons for defeat of the Congress in the Assembly elections of five states, as well as the strategy ahead.
As per sources, 57 leaders are attending this meeting. Ahead of the meeting, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that party leader Rahul Gandhi should be made the President, however, the dissatisfied leaders have alleged that he takes arbitrary decisions, making the party weak. Meanwhile, reports surfaced on Saturday evening, saying that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi may offer their resignation at the CWC meet. The reports were denied by the party. Chief Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, calling the reports "unfair, mischievous and incorrect." Congress leaders, including Manmohan Singh, AK Antony, G Sanjeeva Reddy, Chella Kumar and Gaikhangam, are not attending the CWC.
