Govt extends tenure of ED director

New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) Union Government on Wednesday extended the term of Director of Enforcement Sanjay Kumar Mishra for a year beyond his tenure.
Mishra was set to retire on Monday. A notification issued by the Finance Ministry on Wednesday said his term has been extended till November 18, 2022, or until further orders. "The President of India is pleased to extend the tenure of Shri Sanjay Kumar Mishra IRS (IT:84006) as Director of Enforcement in the Enforcement Directorate for a period of one year beyond 18.11.2021 i.e., upto 18.11.2022 or until further orders., whichever is earlier," the notification said.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday signed two ordinances enabling extension of tenure of CBI, ED chiefs upto five years, a move which has been criticised by Opposition which has alleged it would further compromise the independence of these agencies.
