Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday slammed the government over not evacuating Indian students from Ukraine in time, and asked them to "get their act together". Sharing a video of a student who alleged students were being beaten up at Ukrainian borders, Yechury said the government had sufficient time to evacuate students but they did not act. "Modi government had sufficient lead time to evacuate Indians from Ukraine with Russia declaring its military intentions. Instead focus is on propaganda, spin and photo ops," the CPI-M General Secretary said. "The Government of India must get its act together and evacuate hapless Indians like it did during the Gulf War," he said. Around 20,000 Indians, mostly students, are stuck in Ukraine which was attacked by Russia on February 24. Students are now being evacuated through neighbouring countries Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
