Former Tennis legend Leander Paes, who joined Trinamool Congress recently and is currently campaigning for the party for the upcoming 2022 assembly elections in this coastal state, has said that if elected to power the party would provide solution to all the problems plaguing the state.
Speaking exclusively to UNI, Leander, regarded as one of the greatest tennis players in doubles, said,'If elected to power we have clear cut plans to provide solutions to all the problems mentioned therein.
We come to the table with a strong and efficient team, completely dedicated to creating and being the change in the direction of development for Goa and progress in the life of Goans.'
He said there were various issues, ranging from micro to day-to-day level necessities, plaguing the state and its citizen.
'There are many issues plaguing the state and its citizens. They range from very micro day-to-day necessities like access to potable water to large scale state level issues like unemployment and mining.
'The citizens of a state so rich in natural resources must benefit from it. For me, women’s safety is also something of immediate attention and action. I have spent considerable time now with the fishing community and am in support of the various solutions they need for the many problems this vital community faces.
'I’m also concerned about unemployment amongst the youth. So opportunities and exposure must be created for the youth.
I’m completely dedicated to work towards all of the above and god willing I will help better the lives of my fellow Goans,' he said.
Speaking about his campaign and its response, the former Davis Cup team captain said,'I’m truly humbled and the biggest thing that emerged out of this outreach programme is that Goans are looking for a change. There’s a sizable chunk of concerns and issues plaguing the citizens and I think what they need is a result oriented progress. I think everyone I’ve met is on the same page and so I have had a great reconnect and strengthening of this bond through a common hope and vision.
' 'He said his alignment with the TMC was because it was very dedicated through its sheer political will and crystal clear intention to right the wrongs.
'This has always been a party that works for the welfare of the people with a marked significance. So right at the start, we’ve launched the 'People's Chargesheet' to highlight the various failures of the state machinery and policies,' he said.
On rival political parties, he said they were doing their part and he was going to run his race for the Goans.
'My 30 years of tennis show my passion and I am back home now to make a difference. The problems that people have discussed with me have moved me personally as I live in Goa too. So, yes, I am here to serve my brothers and sisters and work towards a better quality of life. This is my only focus,' he signed out.
