After delivering the first tranche of 10,000 MT of wheat as humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, India on Thursday signed a second agreement with the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) for sending the second tranche of 10,000 MT wheat. The Agreement was signed between Joint Secretary (UNES), Srinivas Gotru and WFP Country Director, Bishow Parajuli. The first Agreement was signed in Rome last month. In view of the deteriorating humanitarian situation and in response to the appeals made by the United Nations for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, Government of India decided to gift 50,000 MTs of wheat to the people of Afghanistan. As of now, the first tranche of 10,000 MTs of wheat has been successfully delivered to Afghanistan and delivery of the next batch of 10,000 MTs of wheat is in the process. The Indian wheat is transported to Afghanistan on trucks via the Attari-Wagah border under the WFP auspices.
