Mamata inaugurates 27th Kolkata International Film Festival

Calling for investment in the Bengali film industry, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said her government was setting up a cine museum for preserving the history of Bengali cinema. Inaugurating the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) at Nazrul Manch here, the Chief Minister said there is a need to create more jobs in the film industry in the state. “Bollywood has money, many can invest. That is not the case in Bengal. Very few still get jobs in the film industry. More jobs need to be created," she said. The Chief Minister requested Bollywood actor-cum Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha, who was present s the chief guest, to bring investments to the Bengali film industry, “which churns out rich content”."You can talk in Bollywood. There are many who can invest in movies. There is talent here," she said. Banerjee said Bengal has a conducive environment for film shooting in the state. "There is the sea, We have forests and beautiful mountains," the Chief Minister said. Banerjee said her government has set up a tele-academy in Baruipur of 24 Parganas South district, and equipped it with all kinds of modern infrastructure. "We are also building a cine museum to preserve the history of Bengali cinema" She said the government has taken steps to give priority to Bengali cinema and regional cinema. Banerjee asked Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi to include the film sector in the next edition of the government's flagship investment summit Bengal Global Business Summit, to be held in February next year.
