Education Minister A Namassivayam on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the hijab issue at a school in Ariyankuppam near here. It may be noted that the headmaster of a government higher secondary school at Ariyankuppam asked a Muslim girl student not to wear hijab and to come to school in uniform. The girl's parents and social organizations met the headmaster and inquired the latter who stated that he said this with no motives and only to maintain uniformity among students in the school. The social organizations on Wednesday met Chief Minister N Rangaswamy and Mr Namassivayam and submitted a memorandum seeking an inquiry into the incident. Following this, the Minister ordered an inquiry and asked the Joint Director of Education Department Sivakamy to inquire and submit a report. Meanwhile, AIADMK (East) Secretary A Anbazhagan alleged that the Congress and DMK were trying to create communal problems in the Union Territory for political gains. Talking to newspersons, Mr Anbazhagan said former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and DMK legislator Siva are magnifying a simple matter happened in a school at Ariyankuppam to create communal clashes which needs to be condemned strongly. He said the NDA government in the UT is implementing the schemes it had announced and as such the Opposition has no issues to criticize the government and hence, this issue was raked up. The AIADMK leader demanded that the police should initiate stringent action against those, whoever it may be, indulging in creating communal problems in the UT.
