PM to receive inaugural Mangeshkar Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conferred the 1st Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award in Mumbai on Sunday. It has been instituted to honour the contribution of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar who passed away at age 92 earlier this year. "The Prime Minister will attend the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards Ceremony in Mumbai... (He) will be conferred this award, which ... will be given every year exclusively to one individual for exemplary contribution towards nation building," the Prime Minister's Office said. The award will be given one individual who has made path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contributions to our nation, its people and society, the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan Charitable Trust said in a statement. "He (PM) is an international statesman who has put India on the path of global leadership. The spectacular progress ... taking place in every aspect and dimension in our beloved nation is driven and inspired by him. He is indeed one of the greatest leaders our great nation has seen in it's glorious history of thousands of years, and our family and Trust gratefully thank him for accepting this Award," the trust said in the statement. There will also be a musical programme titled 'SwarlatanjalI' in the evening conducted by renowned singer Roop Kumar Rathod, which will be a tribute to the immortal melodies and memories of the late Lata Mangeshkar. Renowned singers Hariharan, Aarya Ambekar, Reewa Rathod, Priyanka Barve, Madhura Datar and Vibhawari Apte will perform during the event.
