Paying rich tributes to Saint Philosopher Sri Aurobindo, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that his works and thoughts remain relevant for all and he continues to be our guiding light. Inaugurating the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Aurobindo at the Pondicherry University here, Shah said, "If the spirit of India is to be understood, then one has to listen to and read Aurobindo's books. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Dwarka to Bengal, the same culture binds us all. "Sri Aurobindo provided new energy, momentum and direction to the ancient consciousness of Indian culture. Unless we inculcate the thoughts of Sri Aurobindo amongst the younger generation, create curiosity in their minds to know about him, the objectives of celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo cannot be fulfilled." Stating that there are three main objectives behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shah said, "It is to revive the ideas related to our Freedom Struggle amongst the younger generation, to take the achievements made in the last 75 years to the people, and to spread the idea about the next 25 years being a time of achieving the goal of taking the Nation to the top in the world and making it the best in every field. "Sri Aurobindo placed the concept of Swaraj before the country, and believed that India has the power to solve the problems of the world. Swaraj does not mean only political power, Swaraj also means taking forward the principles indigenous to India, the concepts of culture and its great traditions." He further said that the thoughts of Sri Aurobindo are an invaluable heritage for the country as he gave the idea to take the country forward on the path of development without expecting any success. He said, "Aurobindo tried to propound an important theory of political action, which in a way can also be called spiritual nationalism, and he placed the concept of Nation for the first time. The ideas in Aurobindo's concept of education will be visible everywhere in the new education policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
