10-days long Chaitra Mela begins in city

Agartala: April 04. Chaitra Mela has started from today as per the schedule of Agartala Municipal Corporation.

Small vendors get a chance to open their shops for Chaitra Mela on the roads in Shakuntala Road and Orient Choumuhani in the city. On behalf of Agartala Municipal Corporation, two places have been temporarily fixed for the mela.

The officials of AMC have allotted plots to small traders to open their shops. A total of 538 plots were distributed among traders at the two locations. This year also no money will be collected from the traders on behalf of the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

  They will get the opportunity to do business for free. This Chaitra Mela will continue for the next 11 days. This year’s Chaitra Mela, the traders sitting with temporary shops in the Shakuntala road area said that they have been doing business every year. They see some face of profit and however is hopeful that business will be good this year as well.

Many businessmen are happy as this year also AMC didn’t collect any money from the traders. This Chaitra Mela will continue till April 14. Buyers have started thronging the Chaitra Mela on the first day itself. On behalf of the corporation, they have given strict instructions against dishonest traders in the area and said that no one can collect money illegally from the small traders came for Chaitra Mela.

Last year many traders complained of extortion from roadside shops. So the corporation authorities have now ordered that strict action will be taken against those who try to collect money from these small traders. Agartala city has a tradition of this Chaitra Mela. Traders come from far flung areas to participate in the fair. The corporation authorities are determined to ensure the smooth completion of the fair.
