Agartala, 14th November 2024: Commuters in Kailashahar are facing severe transportation difficulties as the government-run daily bus service to Kumarghat railway station, operated by the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC), has been halted for the past 17 days.
Despite repeated complaints from locals, TRTC authorities have yet to take steps to resume the service, leading to widespread frustration.
The government bus, introduced two years ago following long-standing demands by residents, provided an affordable travel option for the Kailashahar community. Priced at only Rs 30, this fare was significantly lower than the Rs 80-100 charged by private vehicles, making it a critical service for the region’s working class and students. The bus ran four times daily: departing Kailashahar at 5:30 am and 3:30 pm, and leaving Kumarghat railway station at 9:30 am and 9:00 pm.
An official from TRTC in Kailashahar disclosed that the bus has been immobilized at the TRTC bus stand since October 28 due to a severe engine breakdown. According to him, higher authorities were promptly informed, yet no steps have been taken to repair or replace the bus.
With no alternative government or private bus routes between Kailashahar and Kumarghat railway station, hundreds of regular commuters are now left stranded or forced to pay inflated private vehicle fees. Anger and frustration continue to mount among residents, who are calling for swift action by TRTC to resolve the situation.
Residents urge the TRTC to expedite repairs or provide a replacement vehicle, emphasizing that the delay is unacceptable and directly impacts their livelihoods. For now, Kailashahar’s commuters await a prompt response from TRTC, hoping to see their only affordable mode of transportation restored.
