Agartala, 18th February 2026: . Nineteen families evicted from their homes have launched a protest demanding permanent rehabilitation, alleging that despite repeated appeals to the government, no effective measures have been taken so far.
The families claim that, in the absence of any official resettlement plan, they were forced to take shelter on vacant government land in South Joypur. “We had no choice but to occupy the land, as we lack a permanent place to live,” they said.
However, the move has sparked discontent among sections of local residents, who argue that the evicted families should not be allowed to settle there. Citing social concerns, they have raised objections, leading to tension in the area.
The protesting families have strongly denied these allegations, insisting that they wish to live peacefully and have no intention of causing harm. Meanwhile, individuals who previously used the government land have also voiced their concerns, urging the administration to intervene and resolve the dispute.
