20-day civil defense training program kicks off at Panisagar

Agartala, 28th July 2025:    An elaborate 20-day residential training program for civil defense volunteers commenced today at Panisagar Physical Education College’s indoor hall, drawing participation from across North Tripura. Organized jointly by the North District Disaster Authority and the Panisagar subdivisional administration, the initiative aims to equip volunteers with essential disaster response skills.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Panisagar MLA Binoy Bhushan Das, who lit the ceremonial lamp. “Empowering local volunteers with the skills to protect communities is a step forward in strengthening our disaster preparedness,” Das said during his address.

North Tripura District Magistrate, IAS Chandni Chandran served as the chief guest. Additional District Magistrate Bijoy Sinha, Chairman of Panisagar Nagar Panchayat Anuradha Das, Vice-Chairman Dhananjay Debnath, SDM Sushanta Debbarma and BDO Manash Bhattacharya were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Cultural performances added vibrancy to the event, featuring an inaugural song by students of Panisagar Government English Medium School and a dance display by learners from Panisagar Physical Education College and Sports School.

A total of 383 volunteers comprising of 112 from Dharmanagar, 120 from Panisagar and 151 from Kanchanpur subdivisions are enrolled in the program, which runs until August 16. The trainees will undergo both theoretical and hands-on disaster management sessions in four batches of five days each.

District Master Trainer Gautam Shukla Baidya is leading the training team with support from trainers including YAMA Sohag Debath, Sanjib Das, Bishal Dey, Asim Bhattacharjee, Sankalp Das and members of the 13th Battalion TSR such as Assistant Commandant Ranjit Mandal. Civil Defense personnel Biplajit Chakraborty, Praloy Nath and Abhijit Debnath are also facilitating the sessions.

“The training combines field exposure and classroom instruction to ensure well-rounded readiness. By the end of this course, each participant will be better prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to natural calamities,” stated Master Trainer Sankalp Das.

Certificates of completion will be awarded to all volunteers who successfully finish the course.
