27 tribal families languish without basic amenities for seven years

Agartala, 20th July 2025:   Nearly 27 tribal families in the Chankhala Bari area of Kailashnagar ADC Village have been grappling with dire living conditions for over seven years, citing severe shortages of drinking water, road connectivity, and other essential services. Locals have openly criticized MDC Debajit Tripura for failing to deliver on promises made during the previous Autonomous District Council elections.

Despite government allocations reportedly running into lakhs to ensure clean drinking water for every household, residents allege they continue to rely on natural sources such as cisterns, drains, and pit wells. Community members have taken initiatives to construct wells, but during monsoon seasons, muddy runoff renders the water unfit for consumption. Many families, burdened by financial hardship, are unable to afford purification systems, leaving them vulnerable to water-borne illnesses.

“Our children fall sick every season. We’ve pleaded for filters, pipelines—anything. But nothing has come,” said a resident, echoing the growing frustration.

Locals claim MDC Debajit Tripura had assured doorstep support during his campaign, but abandoned the region post-election. With village council elections approaching, residents anticipate another round of campaign promises—ones they no longer believe.

“The last time we trusted those words. This time we’ll speak through our vote,” said a resident, hinting at a growing mood of electoral dissent.

Local members have urged district authorities and elected representatives to intervene urgently and restore basic amenities, warning that prolonged neglect will bear political consequences in the upcoming polls.
