Agartala, 10th September 2025: Over 31,000 cases are set to be heard in Tripura during the third National Lok Adalat of the year, scheduled for September 13, 2025 (Saturday). The Lok Adalat will be held across all district and sub-division court premises as well as the Tripura High Court, with 39 benches taking up as many as 31,789 cases. Of these, 24,113 are pending in various courts, while 6,776 are pre-litigation matters.
The cases listed for disposal span a wide range of disputes. These include 203 matters related to compensation in motor accidents, 249 marital disputes, 5,594 cases of bank loan repayment, and 1,182 linked to BSNL bill payments. A significant portion, 23,442, consists of conciliatory criminal disputes under the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act, and Excise Act. In addition, 68 cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, eight money suits, 35 civil cases (TSOMS), one case under the Forest Rights Act, and seven related to employment issues will also be heard. The Tripura High Court will handle 24 cases before its bench.
To ensure effective proceedings, notices have already been served to the parties concerned. Since September 8, many beneficiaries have begun availing pre-conciliation or settlement opportunities facilitated by the District Legal Services Authority and Sub-division Legal Services Authority. Odhikar Mitra volunteers are also assisting parties who have received notices, helping them navigate the process smoothly.
Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, Justice Amarnath Gaur, has issued the necessary directions to ensure the success of the Lok Adalat. Meanwhile, Member-Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury, through a press release, has appealed to all concerned parties to take advantage of this opportunity to settle disputes swiftly and without incurring legal costs.
