Agartala, 19th February 2024 : The 42nd edition of the Agartala Book Fair, hailed as the “festival of contemplation,” is set to kick off on February 21, coinciding with Mother Language Day. The esteemed event will be officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha at the International Fair Grounds in Hapania.
The opening ceremony, scheduled to commence at 4 pm, will take place at the prestigious Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay stage. Distinguished personalities expected to grace the occasion include Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ramprasad Pal, MLA nd Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, Mayor of AMC Dipak Majumder, Secretary of ICA Department Dr. PK Chakraborty, and Assistant High Commissioner of Agartala Bangladesh High Commission Arif Mohammad. Notably, renowned writer and researcher Subhash Singh Roy from neighboring Bangladesh has been specially invited to partake in the event, adding an international flair to the proceedings.
Spanning over a period of 14 days, the Agartala Book Fair at Hapania International Fair premises promises a diverse array of cultural programs, poet conferences, discussion cycles, quizzes, impromptu lectures, and book launches on a daily basis. The fair will commence daily from 2:30 pm, with an exception for Sundays, where it will open its doors at 1 pm. Stalls have already been allocated to publishers and vendors, with ongoing construction ensuring their readiness. Furthermore, efforts are underway to embellish the fair premises with decorative arches and illuminations, creating an enchanting atmosphere for visitors.
In a thoughtful gesture, the government has arranged free transportation for book lovers, facilitating easy access to the fairgrounds. This initiative underscores the commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a vibrant literary culture within the community.
As anticipation mounts for the commencement of this illustrious event, organizers are poised to deliver an enriching and immersive experience for attendees, celebrating the essence of language, literature, and cultural exchange.
