Agartala, 12th March 2026: In a bid to empower tribal women through self-reliance initiatives, the Santirbazar Tribal Welfare Department organized a yarn distribution and training completion ceremony today under the Mukhyamantri Janjati Unnayan Prakalpa.
The program was held in two phases. At the Bokaga Block Conference Hall, yarn was distributed to 450 tribal women, while another 80 women received yarn at the Santirbazar Mukut Auditorium. Alongside the distribution, certificates were awarded to participants who successfully completed a 30-day training program titled “Tribal Craft Traditional Weaving with Designing & Aesthetics.”
The events were attended by Pramod Reang, MLA of Santirbazar assembly constituency, Krishna Reang, Chairman of Bogafa Panchayat Samiti, Swapan Baidya, Municipal Mother, Councillor Nepal Debnath, social worker Debasish Bhowmik, Travel Welfare Officer Saif Uddin Ahmed, and Manoj Pal, Bogafa Block Development Officer, among others.
Speakers highlighted the core objective of the initiative: to connect tribal women with traditional weaving and handicrafts, enhance their skills, and promote financial independence. They emphasized that the training also introduced modern design and aesthetic concepts, encouraging market-oriented production to strengthen local industries.
Local residents and beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, noting that government support and skill development programs are opening new avenues for employment and boosting household income. They expressed optimism that such efforts would contribute significantly to the region’s overall social and economic progress in the coming days.
