Agartala, 18th August 2025: The Neurology Department of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital has achieved a breakthrough in advanced neurological care, successfully treating a 60-year-old patient suffering from severe walking difficulties and loss of balance.
According to the Directorate of Health, the diabetic patient was admitted on August 4 with rapidly worsening mobility issues. Under the supervision of Director of Health Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar and Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, a medical team led by Assistant Professor Dr. Abir Lal Nath and neurologist Dr. Arpan Mitra conducted MRI Spine and NCV tests in line with the CIDP protocol.
Although the NCV report showed near-normal results, the patient’s condition continued to decline. The doctors immediately opted for Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy, a critical life-saving treatment costing around ₹3 lakh. The drug was provided free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Following the therapy and physiotherapy support, the patient made remarkable progress. Within days, he regained balance, was able to stand, and eventually began walking with assistance. Expressing deep gratitude, he thanked the doctors, physiotherapists, and healthcare staff for giving him a “new lease of life.”
This successful case highlights the growing expertise of AGMC’s Neurology Department and reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring advanced healthcare services for the people of Tripura.
