Agartala, 29th October 2024: Residents of the southern part of the Smart City and surrounding areas are grappling with a severe water shortage, particularly evident during the Puja season. The struggle to provide water twice a day through deep tube wells has been ongoing even before Durga Puja. This issue also surfaced during Lakshmi Puja in the southern region. However, the situation took a turn for the worse two days before Diwali when the drinking water service abruptly halted.
“Since the morning of October 28, people in the southern part of the city have not been getting drinking water,” said Engineer Alok Dey of the Milan Sangh Water Division Office, who faced media inquiries on Tuesday regarding the issue.
He explained, “On October 28, there was a mechanical connection issue between the line in the Bardowali water tank and the delivery line of Shishu Bihar. Actions are taken as soon as problems arise. We are working day and night. Efforts are underway to complete the work by 9 pm on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday morning, water will be available in South Zone, Central Zone, Children’s Zone and other areas of the city.”
Alok Dey also mentioned that water is typically delivered from the Bardowali plant to Shishu Bihar over the tank. “So the people of the area around Ramnagar are in trouble. As soon as there is a mechanical disturbance, the matter is being looked at with utmost importance. We are focusing on how to serve people by getting the work done quickly,” he added.
