Agartala, 27th May 2025: The admission process for general degree colleges in the state commenced on May 23 through the ‘Samarth’ portal, as announced by Special Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Ravel Hemendra Kumar, during a press conference at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.
The first round of admissions will continue until May 30, with the merit list set to be published on June 11 on the respective college websites. Kumar stated that the process is being conducted per the guidelines of the Union Education Ministry and Tripura University. The second round of admissions will take place from June 21 to June 25, and if vacancies remain, college authorities will fill seats based on the merit list. This year, students can apply to a maximum of four colleges and select two major subjects per institution.
In an effort to increase access to higher education, three new general degree colleges will begin operations this academic year in Ambassa, Karbook, and Kakraban. Admissions for these institutions will be conducted via the Directorate of Higher Education’s website. Additionally, existing institutions such as the Institute of Advanced Studies in Kunjaban and the College of Teacher Education in Kumarghat will introduce undergraduate programs in English, Education, and Political Science.
Other key developments include the transformation of TIT in Narsingarh into a government technical university and Agartala Women’s College into a government women’s university, backed by financial assistance.
Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma confirmed that recruitment for 201 assistant professors and 13 principals via TPSC is nearing completion. Furthermore, approval has been granted for an additional 200 assistant professors and three principals.
Infrastructure improvements at the newly established colleges are progressing, with renovations completed at Kakraban and underway at Ambassa and Karbook. Classes for the 2025-26 academic year in all degree colleges are scheduled to begin in early July.
Additional Director of Higher Education Rajesh Bhattacharya was also present at the press conference.
