Agartala, 21st July 2025: A wave of grief swept through the journalistic community on Monday as the Agartala Press Club became the focal point of mourning for veteran journalist and Dainik Sambad News Editor, Pradip Dutta Bhaumik, who passed away at AIIMS, New Delhi, on Sunday.
His mortal remains were flown to Agartala on Monday afternoon. From the airport, the body was taken first to the Dainik Sambad office in Notun Nagar and then to his Indranagar residence. Around 5:15 PM, the hearse reached the Agartala Press Club, where an emotionally charged crowd had gathered to bid him a final farewell.
Journalists, editors, photojournalists, writers, educationists, bureaucrats, and political leaders gathered in large numbers to pay tribute. Garlands, silent prayers, and moist eyes marked the solemn farewell to a man whose career spanned decades and shaped Tripura’s media landscape.
Following the tribute at the Press Club, the body was taken to the old Dainik Sambad office before the final journey to Battala crematorium, where the last rites were performed in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited the late journalist’s Indranagar residence to convey their condolences to the bereaved family. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also laid floral tributes at the Agartala Press Club, lauding Bhaumik’s enduring contributions to journalism in the state.
