Agartala, 20th August 2025: :The India March for Science–Agartala Organizing Committee held a science march today to commemorate the martyrdom day of Dr. Narendra Dabholkar and promote scientific temper. The march began in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here and proceeded through various city streets before concluding at City Centre.
Participants raised several key demands, including effective action against global warming and the climate crisis, fostering scientific thinking among the public, increasing government funding for education and fundamental research, enacting laws against black magic, reinstating important subjects removed from school syllabi, and improving infrastructure in public education and healthcare.
More than 300 science enthusiasts including scientists, researchers, educators, students, and members of various science and education organizations joined the march in support of these causes. The event was inaugurated by Professor Purnendu Kanti Das, a noted science writer, former president of the Tripura Chemical Society and advisory board member of the Breakthrough Science Society.
Before the march began, a street-corner meeting was held in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here. Speakers at the gathering included Raju Acharya, convenor of the organizing committee; Prof. Priyashankar Choudhury, advisor to the Breakthrough Science Society Tripura Chapter; Dr. Mihir Lal Roy, former chief scientific officer of the Tripura State Council for Science and Technology; Satyajit Banerjee, president of the Tripura Rationalist Development Forum; and Milon Chakraborty, member of the All India Save Education Committee (Tripura Unit) and West District president.
Each speaker emphasized the significance of the march and the need to uphold scientific values in public life, echoing the legacy of Dr. Dabholkar and the broader mission to build a rational, informed society.
