Agartala, 15th December 2025:   The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), the farmers’ wing of the CPI(M), stepped up its membership and outreach campaign in Sonamura subdivision today. Under the initiative of the Durlabh Narayan local committee, party leaders and activists spent the day visiting households in Ward No. 3 of Bardowal Gram Panchayat, engaging with residents and collecting memberships.

The drive was led by AIKS state secretary Pabitra Kar, state committee member Suresh Das, former MLA Tapan Das, Sonamura subdivision joint secretary Mizan Mia, regional secretary and president Subal Debnath, and Abul Kalam. Veteran farmer leader Abdur Razzak also joined the campaign, underscoring the collective leadership behind the effort.

According to party sources, the AIKS has set a target of enrolling 18,000 members across the subdivision. So far, 14,000 memberships have been collected, with the remaining quota expected to be achieved within the week.

Beyond membership, political grievances surfaced prominently during the campaign. Farmers in Bardowal, whose lands were severely damaged by recurring floods from Rudrasagar Lake, expressed frustration over the lack of government support. “Despite heavy losses in the last floods, not a single rupee has been provided by the government,” villagers told Kar during his visit.

Residents also voiced broader discontent with the BJP-led coalition government, citing multiple unresolved issues. AIKS leaders indicated that these grievances would form the basis of upcoming protest rallies, meetings, and mass gatherings, keeping the farmers’ struggles at the forefront of political mobilization in the region.
