Agartala, 25th March 2026: Tight security marked the beginning of the nomination scrutiny for the upcoming Dharmanagar Assembly by-election, as administrative officials ensured a smooth and orderly process at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.
Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury confirmed that all six nomination papers submitted have been deemed legally valid. Around 11 a.m., candidates from various political parties arrived to have their documents verified. After careful examination, the administration officially declared all nominations acceptable.
The contest will feature six candidates: Amitabh Dutta of the CPI(M) (Left Front), Jahar Chakraborty of the BJP, Chayan Bhattacharya of Congress, Bibhas Ranjan Das of the ‘Amra Bangali’ party, Sanjoy Chowdhury of the SUCI(C), and independent candidate Brajalal Debnath.
The Returning Officer stressed that all nominations were processed strictly according to legal provisions. With scrutiny now complete, political focus shifts to the final date for withdrawal of candidatures, when the final list of contestants will be confirmed.
