Allegations of corruption surface over food distribution at 48th Kokborok Day event

Agartala, 19th January 2026:  Serious allegations of corruption have emerged surrounding the food distribution for children at the 48th Kokborok Day celebration held at Post Office Chowmuhani. Parents and attendees have raised concerns over the quality and quantity of food provided to young students participating in the event.

Reportedly, although the food boxes handed out appeared large in size, they contained only a single small banana, sparking outrage among both children and their guardians. Many students, who arrived at the venue as early as 7 a.m., reportedly waited until noon without receiving adequate refreshments.

Eyewitnesses and complainants claim that despite official statements asserting that each food packet included a cake, a fruit drink, and an orange, the actual contents fell far short of expectations. Visual evidence captured by media personnel showed that the boxes contained only a small banana, contradicting the authorities’ claims.

Further controversy surrounds the reported allocation of Rs 200 per food packet. With such a budget, many are questioning where the funds were actually spent, as the distributed items did not reflect the stated expenditure. This discrepancy has led to suspicions that the funds meant for children’s meals may have been misappropriated.

The incident has prompted widespread criticism of the government’s oversight and accountability. Parents and members of the public are now demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and strict action against those found responsible.
