Agartala, 2nd September 2024: Acting on a tip-off, the Ambassa police successfully intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle at Betbagan Naka Point on Assam-Agartala National Highway No. 8, uncovering a substantial haul of dried cannabis. The vehicle bearing registration number TR04B-0787 was found to contain 220 kg of the contraband hidden in a secret compartment.
A swift response team including Ambassa Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sabir Ahmed and Officer-in-Charge Gurupada Debnath, arrived at the scene following the intelligence report. The operation led to the arrest of the driver Suleiman Mia.
In a statement, SDPO Sabir Ahmed estimated the market value of the seized cannabis to be approximately Rs 20 lakh. He also revealed that two different number plates were discovered in the vehicle, and further investigation is underway to determine the authenticity of the plates.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts of the Ambassa police to combat drug trafficking in the region.
