Amidst Tension in Bangladesh, 11 Bangladeshi Nationals Held, Narcotics Worth Rs 70 Lakh Seized in Tripura

Agartala, 7th August 2024:  In light of the unrest in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police have detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals and seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 70 lakh in two separate operations.

According to the BSF, on the night between August 6th and 7th, based on specific information, a joint operation was conducted by BSF and Tripura Police near Jama Masjid, Muslim Para, Gajaria under A D Nagar Police Station in West Tripura. The operation resulted in the detention of eight Bangladeshi nationals, including one female tout. Initial questioning revealed they were planning to re-enter Bangladesh. They were handed over to the police and later produced before the court.

In a separate incident, three Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at a mobile check post in Amtali, jointly set up by BSF troops and Tripura Police under the West District.

In another operation, BSF troops and a team from Kalamchoura Police Station under Sepahijala District recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 50 lakh from a motorcycle in the area of Border Out Post.

Additionally, based on specific information, BSF troops from BOP Srinagar and Tripura Police conducted a joint operation near the Indian village of Krishna Nagar in the West District. This operation led to the recovery of 9,500 packets of cigarettes (PATRON and ORIS) worth Rs 20 lakh and Rs 63,000 from a rubber plantation.

“BSF, with active assistance from Tripura Police and other sister agencies, has intensified efforts to dominate the border and hinterland to prevent infiltration and trans-border crime attempts,” said the BSF.
