Agartala, 2nd December 2025 : In a bid to improve fish availability for economically disadvantaged villagers, Ampi Nagar 23 Constituency MDC Sadagar Kalai released a large quantity of fingerlings into the Songang River in Gomati district, Tripura.
The initiative, supported by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), sanctioned the release of nearly 1 lakh fingerlings across multiple locations, including Tuidu, Jhantranaghat, and Marua villages in Nagrai.
On this occasion, several TMP social activists joined the effort, collectively releasing fingerlings of various species and sizes into the river. The program aims to strengthen local fish populations, ensuring sustainable access to food and livelihood opportunities for rural communities.
To safeguard the fingerlings, MDC Kalai urged villagers to refrain from catching them for at least six months, allowing proper growth. He also advised against harmful practices such as using batteries to hunt fish in the river.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by the public, with many villagers expressing gratitude to the MDC for his philanthropic and community-focused contribution.
