Agartala, 16th February 2026: A man has been arrested and placed in police custody following allegations of attempted murder, assault, and attempted rape against his elder brother and sister-in-law.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jhutan Roy, a local bike mechanic and younger son of the late Chandra Mohan Roy, has a history of quarrels with family members. On Sunday evening around 6 p.m., Jhutan allegedly engaged in a heated dispute with his elder brother Toton Roy after returning home from the market. When another elder brother, Gautam Roy, intervened to stop the fight, Jhutan reportedly struck him on the head with a chair, leaving him injured and bleeding.
As Gautam’s wife came forward to protest, Jhutan allegedly dragged her into a room, pulled at her clothing, and attempted to sexually assault her. He is also accused of attacking Toton Roy during the same incident.
Hearing the commotion, neighbors rushed to the house and informed Amtali police. Officers arrived promptly and detained Jhutan, taking him into custody.
On Monday afternoon, Gautam Roy’s wife filed a formal complaint at Amtali police station, accusing Jhutan of attempted murder, physical assault, and attempted rape. Speaking to the media, Gautam Roy and his wife demanded strict punishment for the accused. Local residents have also echoed calls for strong legal action.
Police confirmed that Jhutan Roy has been produced before the court on Monday.
