Belonia woman Inspector honored with national award for swift justice in POCSO case

Agartala, 1st November 2025:  Woman Inspector (UB) Swapna Bhowmik of Belonia Women Police Station has been conferred the prestigious Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak for 2025, recognizing her exemplary investigative work and unwavering commitment to justice in a sensitive case involving a minor.

The award, announced by the Office of the Director General of Police, Tripura, celebrates Bhowmik’s role in securing a swift conviction in a case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident, which occurred on September 14, 2024, was reported the following day and led to the arrest of the accused within 48 hours.

Under Bhowmik’s leadership, the investigation was completed with remarkable efficiency. A charge sheet was filed by September 30, and the trial concluded within 30 days. On October 31, the accused was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The DGP’s office commended Inspector Bhowmik for her professionalism, dedication, and timely action, noting that her efforts exemplify the importance of swift justice in cases involving vulnerable victims. Her recognition underscores the Tripura Police’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting children from exploitation.
