Agartala, 10th November 2025: Amidst the crisis of gas, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has taken a move to provide uninterrupted power supply by introducing new technology at the Rukhia Power Plant, where bhumi pujan will take place on November 26.
This information was shared by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today.
The Minister informed that on November 26, bhumi pujan will take place at the Rukhia Power Plant for 120 megawatt power generation using Combined Cycle Gas Turbine technology.
He said that in 2017–2018, the actual capacity of the Rukhia Power Plant was 63 megawatt, but it used to generate 40 megawatt of power. In 2018–19 also, 40 megawatt of power was generated.
“In the year 2019–20, we produced 56 megawatt of power despite the crisis of gas. But in 2022–23, it was closed due to environmental clearance issues. The then government before 2018 had not taken any permission or clearance. I myself went to New Delhi, spoke with ministers and officials, and then solved the issue after receiving the environmental clearance. Now, the Rukhia Power Plant generates 19 megawatt,” he said.
The Minister said that the power department has introduced new technology, which is Combined Cycle Gas Turbine technology.
“Using this technology, we will generate 120 megawatt of power using the same gas, though the market price of gas in the international market is high. For this, around Rs 1,119 crore (without GST) would be spent,” said the Minister.
The Minister said that gas is not in anyone’s hands as it is a natural resource and is slowly vanishing, and for this reason, the state government is focusing on solar energy.
