Agartala, 13th November 2025:   A large-scale anti-cannabis operation led by Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) IPS Bikash Senthiya and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishalgarh Police Station Vijay Das has triggered panic among illegal cultivators in the region.

The crackdown conducted this morning targeted remote hill areas in the ADC village of Banshibari and the Barkuchi region under Bishalgarh police station. The joint task force, comprising personnel from the district intelligence unit, CRPF, 11th Battalion TSR, and 14th Battalion Women TSR, was supported by a large contingent of laborers to uproot and destroy cannabis plantations.

Police sources informed that the team successfully destroyed over one lakh cannabis plants spread across 45 plots. The operation involved navigating difficult terrain, with officers systematically clearing plantation after plantation. Local cultivators were reportedly seen observing the operation from nearby forested areas, unable to intervene.

Speaking to the media after the operation, SDPO Bikash Senthiya confirmed that several more illegal cannabis farms exist in the Bishalgarh region. “We are committed to eradicating all such plantations. This is just the beginning,” he stated.

He also issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal cultivation: “Anyone found engaging in such activities will face strict legal consequences. We urge people to refrain from participating in this unlawful trade.”

The operation marks another successful chapter in the ongoing efforts by Tripura Police to curb narcotics cultivation and trafficking in the state.
