Agartala, 30th July 2024:   The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the administration of failing to prevent the tearing and vandalizing of their flags and festoons by opposition parties. This accusation was made during a protest held on Tuesday at the Bagbasa police station.

The BJP delegation led by Zilla Parishad candidate Joyjit Sharma approached the administration alleging that the CPIM and Congress party supporters were sabotaging their campaign for the upcoming 3-tier panchayat elections. According to Sharma, these acts of vandalism are carried out under the cover of darkness, aiming to disrupt the BJP’s campaign efforts.

Throughout the day, BJP workers had enthusiastically decorated the Bagbasa Ganganagar area with campaign materials. However, they claim that opposition party miscreants took advantage of the night to deface and destroy their decorations.

Joyjit Sharma, along with Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat candidates presented their grievances at the police station. Sharma challenged the opposition, stating, “If the members of the opposition party have so much power, then they should come and destroy the BJP campaign in broad daylight.” He emphasized the necessity of involving the administration to ensure a fair and uninterrupted campaign, given the BJP’s position as the ruling party in the state.

The protest and subsequent complaint to the administration highlight the ongoing tensions and fierce competition in the run-up to the elections.
