Agartala, 12th August 2024:  The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured all 17 seats in the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, demonstrating its dominance in the district. The BJP’s stronghold was further solidified as three candidates won unopposed underscoring the party’s sweeping influence in the district.

BJP candidate Khushbo Debvarma won unopposed, securing the Janjati reserved seat for women. This seat is a key constituency in the Bamutia Block. Shila Das Sen of BJP emerged victorious in a three-way contest against CPIM’s Jyoti Prabha Das and a Congress candidate. This seat was highly contested, showcasing the BJP’s electoral strategy. Bishnu Dhan Das won the seat in another three-way battle, defeating CPIM’s Suman Sarkar and Congress’ Ratan Roy.

BJP maintained its momentum with Balai Goswami winning Seat 4, Mishtu Sarkar taking Seat 5 (reserved for Scheduled Caste women), and a victory in the female reserved Seat 6. All these seats were also contested by candidates from CPIM and Congress, yet BJP’s dominance remained unchallenged. Joynal Das of BJP won in a three-way contest. BJP’s Shivayan Das claimed victory against CPIM’s Shyamal Rudra Pal, demonstrating BJP’s strong presence in general seats as well. Manju Das secured the seat, again amidst a three-way contest.

BJP’s Kanma Sarkar won against rivals from CPIM and Congress. Krishna Jeet Das secured the seat. Biswajit Shil of BJP defeated his rivals from CPIM and Congress.

The BJP continued its winning streak, with Mamata Deb winning Seat 13, Malaya Lodh taking Seat 14 unopposed and Abhinash Das securing the reserved Seat 15. Sujata Sarkar and Uttam Das won seats 16 and 17 respectively with Uttam Das defeating CPIM’s Mukul Sarkar and Congress’ Dulal Mia.

The results from West Tripura District Zilla Parishad underscore BJP’s robust electoral machinery and its ability to appeal across diverse voter bases. The victory in all 17 seats, including several reserved for marginalized communities, is a testament to the party’s strategic outreach. With significant wins in blocks like Bamutia, Mohanpur, Jirania, and Old Agartala, BJP has effectively established itself as the predominant political force in the district. These results also reflect the broader political trends in Tripura, where the BJP has been consolidating power since its significant state-level victory in previous elections.
