Agartala, 8th July 2025: Amid the nationwide general strike called for tomorrow by 10 central trade unions, local leaders from the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) have declared that transport services in Melaghar will operate normally rejecting the call as politically motivated.
Biplab Majumdar, President of the Melaghar Motorstand BMS unit stated that the strike led by CPI(M) does not serve the interests of the people and aims only to meet narrow political ends. “This bandh is anti-people and not in favor of public welfare,” he said, addressing the media personnel earlier today.
The nationwide strike is being organized based on a 17-point charter of demands, which includes scrapping the four labor codes, restoring the old pension scheme, and repealing the electricity amendment bill. However, the state and sub-divisional leadership of the BMS have strongly opposed the strike, labeling it disruptive and unnecessary.
To highlight their stance, BMS leaders including Bus Syndicate Sub-division Branch Secretary Swapan Saha participated in a protest rally today. A miking campaign and a procession are also scheduled for this evening in Melaghar to urge public resistance against the bandh.
BMS leaders reiterated that commuters should expect normal bus operations tomorrow, and that their organization is committed to ensuring uninterrupted services despite the strike call.
