Agartala, 19th March 2024: In a collaborative effort between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police, a significant breakthrough was made in the fight against drug smuggling by seizing Yaba tablets worth Rs 3 crores.
The raid was conducted on Monday late night at the residence of Idris Mia in Rabindranagar, Sonamura under Sepahijala District which share international border with Bangladesh.
Sonamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sasimohan Debbarma told reporters, approximately 70,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of Rs 3 crore were seized from Idris Mia’s premises. Alongside the illicit drugs, a sum of Rs 1. 40 lakh was also confiscated.
“Idris Mia, a notorious figure in the realm of drug trafficking, managed to evade authorities during the raid. The intelligence department of BSF and local law enforcement had long been monitoring Mia’s activities, suspecting his involvement in smuggling drugs from other states into the area. Acting on credible information provided by a confidential source, the raid was swiftly executed, leading to the seizure of the substantial drug haul. Furthermore, in a crucial development, an expensive vehicle believed to be used for smuggling purposes was impounded during the operation”, said the SDPO.
