Agartala, 23rd December 2024: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has assured that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is ready to support healthcare development in Tripura’s East Constituency if the state government submits a suitable proposal.
This assurance was given to BJP Lok Sabha MP Kriti Devi Debbarma, who represents the Tripura East constituency, in response to her request for establishing an AIIMS-like medical institution in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region.
In his reply, Union Minister Nadda stated that the matter was examined, and under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has already been established in Guwahati, Assam, which is fully operational.
He further highlighted that Tripura has already benefited under PMSSY with the upgradation of Agartala Medical College through the construction of a Super Specialty Block, completed under a Centre-State cost-sharing arrangement. However, the current phase of PMSSY does not include any proposals for establishing another AIIMS in Tripura.
The Minister emphasized that under the National Health Mission (NHM), financial and technical assistance is provided to states to strengthen healthcare infrastructure based on their Program Implementation Plans (PIPs).
“If the state government includes a proposal for enhancing healthcare services in the Tripura East constituency within their PIP, the Ministry will be happy to provide support, provided it aligns with NHM guidelines and the state’s resource allocation framework,” Nadda assured.
This statement underscores the Centre’s willingness to collaborate with the state government in improving healthcare services in Tripura.
