Agartala, 7th February 2025:   The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organized a protest march on Friday against the central government’s policies perceived to be against workers, farmers, and the common people. The procession began at the sub-division office at Melar Math and traversed various streets of Agartala before culminating at Kaman Chowmuhani.

Speaking to reporters here, CITU state president Manik Dey stated, “On the instructions of the central leadership of CITU, a protest march has been organized in Agartala today to protest against the workers, farmers and anti-people policies of the centre. The central budget for 2025 has been presented as a very bad budget. The common people have no priority in that budget.”

Dey further alleged that the budget has slashed funds across several crucial sectors, including education, health, labor, and rural development. “The budget money is being spent in the interest of the rich. There is no opportunity for employment for the unemployed. CITU has taken a stand against this. This budget is an anti-people budget. This budget is a monopoly budget to make the capitalists rich,” he asserted.

The protest march saw participation from numerous CITU members and supporters, who raised slogans and carried banners denouncing the central government’s budget and policies. The demonstration highlighted the union’s demand for a more inclusive and equitable budget that prioritizes the needs of workers, farmers, and the general populace.
