Agartala, 5th November 2025:  Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said Tripura is rapidly transforming into a healthcare destination of the Northeast and invited private sector participation to further strengthen medical infrastructure and ensure world-class healthcare services for the people.

Dr. Saha said, “We always envision Tripura as a health and medical hub. Significant work is underway to enhance healthcare delivery across the state. Not only our citizens but also people from neighbouring Bangladesh and adjoining states can benefit from Tripura’s growing medical facilities.”

Highlighting upcoming private sector initiatives, the Chief Minister said that Shija Hospitals, a reputed Manipur-based healthcare institution, has proposed to set up a superspecialty hospital in Tripura. “They plan to develop it in four phases, and later expand with a medical college as well. This is a very good development for the state,” he added.

Welcoming such investments, Dr. Saha said, “When private players come forward with projects like this, we wholeheartedly support them. The Prime Minister also encourages private investment in the health sector to ensure better accessibility and services.”

The Chief Minister also mentioned that Tripura has successfully conducted five kidney transplants so far, and all patients are recovering well.

Earlier, on November 3, Dr. Saha laid the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital, including the Critical Care Building (CCB), Communicable Disease Centre (CDC), a 20-bed special ward, and the Inter-Departmental Call Management System (IDCMS).

Reiterating the government’s focus on healthcare, Dr. Saha said efforts are being made to bring AGMC among the top 10 medical colleges in the country. He also noted that Tripura currently has 400 MBBS seats across its medical colleges, reflecting the state’s growing capacity in medical education.
