Agartala, 29th May 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday reiterated the state government’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency through the integration of advanced technologies in agriculture.
Addressing the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district, Dr. Saha said the current administration has placed special emphasis on increasing farmers’ income and enhancing agricultural productivity through modern tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology. “Compared to the financial year 2015–16, farmers’ income has increased significantly. Our aim is to make the state self-sufficient in food production using cutting-edge technology,” Dr. Saha said. He was joined at the event by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
The Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, part of a nationwide campaign, aims to empower farmers through awareness and adoption of modern agricultural practices. “The state government, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, is dedicated to the welfare and financial empowerment of farmers through technological progress,” the Chief Minister added.
Dr. Saha also mentioned that the use of high-end agricultural technologies is expected to significantly improve crop quality and productivity across Tripura. He highlighted Tripura’s participation in the recent Rising Northeast Investors Summit in New Delhi, where investment agreements worth Rs 30,000 crore were signed, including Rs 15,600 crore earmarked for Tripura alone.
“This reflects the growing confidence of investors in Tripura’s potential,” he remarked, adding that the prosperity of farmers is vital for the overall development of both the state and the nation.
The Chief Minister also noted the state’s ongoing collaboration with NITI Aayog and the Union Ministry of Agriculture under the Digital Agriculture Mission. The focus is on improving AI-based crop advisory systems, which have already started showing tangible results.
“Advanced technologies like AI and drones are being introduced across various districts. These tools are enhancing decision-making and crop management for farmers,” he said. Dr. Saha informed that since the BJP assumed office in Tripura, paddy procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been streamlined, with over ₹446 crore disbursed to farmers so far. Paddy is currently being purchased at ₹23 per kilogram. Additionally, more than 2.06 lakh farmers have received Soil Health Cards, and one Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) has been established in each of the state’s 58 blocks.
The program was also attended by Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta, Agriculture Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Sepahijala District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, and other senior officials.
