Agartala, 11th October 2025 : The Gournagar Panchayat Samiti commemorated its first anniversary setting what many described as a benchmark for grassroots governance in Tripura at Tilla Bazar Madrasa grounds yesterday. The event was organized by the Congress-led Samiti, drew a large turnout of party leaders, elected representatives and supporters, transforming the venue into a festive gathering despite adverse weather conditions.
Pradesh Congress Legislature Party leader and MLA Birajit Sinha, District Congress President and Vice Chairman of the Samiti Md Badruzzaman, Samiti Chairperson Lakhi Nama, former Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharya, along with numerous Congress leaders from district and block levels were present.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Rudrendu Bhattacharya, followed by youth leader Zuber Ahmed Khan presenting a detailed account of the Samiti’s achievements over the past year, including development initiatives and public service efforts.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Birajit Sinha criticized the BJP-led state government, accusing it of fostering an environment of fear and intimidation. “Despite the hostile climate created by the ruling party, Congress managed to field candidates in every seat of Gournagar block. This reflects the unwavering spirit and unity of our workers,” he said.
Sinha described the battle for Gournagar as a historic struggle for the Congress, citing challenges such as the shifting of counting centers. “Our workers stood firm and secured victory, setting a rare precedent in the state’s political history,” he added.
Vice Chairman Md Badruzzaman echoed the sentiment, stating, “While most of the state’s 57 Panchayat Samitis were seized under BJP’s reign of terror, Gournagar was won through merit under Birajit Sinha’s leadership. Our mission now is to rise above politics and stand by the poor and marginalized.”
He further revealed that the Samiti had approved nearly 7,000 housing units in the past year without any partisan bias. Looking ahead, the Samiti aims to uphold equitable development across all communities over the next four years.
“Our work must be such that no one can accuse us of favoritism. We view every Panchayat in Gournagar block through the same lens and will continue to do so,” Md Badruzzaman emphasized.
The event concluded with speeches reinforcing themes of unity, progress, and organizational discipline, leaving a strong impression of Congress’s commitment to inclusive governance at the grassroots level.
