Agartala, 28th January 2026: Development work at Maiganga Sukanta Higher Secondary School in Teliamura came to an abrupt halt after local residents raised serious objections over alleged use of substandard materials in the construction of a boundary wall and a cycle stand. The intervention has left the project in limbo, sparking widespread concern among parents and community members who had long awaited the facility.
The project, sanctioned under government funding during the current BJP administration and supervised by the Teliamura School Inspector, was intended to safeguard school property and enhance student safety. Locals had been pressing for such infrastructure since the CPI(M) era, and the start of construction initially brought relief and optimism.
However, within days, complaints surfaced regarding the quality of bricks, cement, and construction practices. Residents feared that poorly executed work could compromise the durability of the structures, posing risks to students. This morning, a group of locals gathered at the site and forced the suspension of work, alleging that the supervising engineer was absent during the process.
Community members underscored that strict monitoring and adherence to quality standards are vital in a sensitive institution like a school. They warned that negligence would not only waste public funds but also endanger children’s lives.
The incident has also taken a political turn. While some locals accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation to obstruct development projects, opposition leaders rejected the allegations.
Though tensions briefly escalated, the situation has since calmed. Parents, residents, and school authorities remain united in their demand: the project must resume only with full transparency, strict regulation, and uncompromising quality standards to ensure student safety and institutional integrity.
