Agartala, 30th January 2026:  Acting on specific intelligence, personnel of East Agartala Police Station arrested two men at Jogendranagar Railway Station on Thursday night and recovered a sizeable consignment of cough syrup suspected to be meant for illegal use.

Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath said that 50 bottles of cough syrup were seized during the operation. The accused were identified as Ajay Kumar and Bikram Kumar, residents of Nalanda district in Bihar.

During initial questioning, the arrested duo reportedly confessed to bringing the consignment from Patna by train. According to police estimates, the seized cough syrup is valued at around Rs 75,000 in the illegal market.

Highlighting that cough syrup is frequently abused as a narcotic substance, the OC said the seizure reflects the police’s continued drive against drug trafficking in the state. He added that the accused would be produced before the court on Friday with a plea for police remand, while efforts are underway to uncover the larger network behind the racket.
